I have been MIA lately because we have been in a tropical island paradise enjoying our honeymoon. We went to Coco Plum Island Resort; a private, adults-only, 18 cabana beautiful island about 9 miles off the coast of Dangriga, Belize. It was like being in heaven, or at least how I envision my heaven would be! Another couple on the island got married while we were there and we actually went to their wedding and had shots at the bar after to celebrate!
I’m not even sure where to begin… All-around this honeymoon/vacation was perfect from start to finish. We travel a lot and this was by far the best experience! I highly recommend anyone planning their honeymoon or looking for an all-inclusive vacation to check out Coco Plum. Our 7 night package included two mainland excursions and 3 snorkel trips along with meals, drinks and island activities. The only thing we needed to do was book our flight to Belize City, then they handled the rest (including the flight to Dangriga, bus transfer and boat ride to the island). Here’s my complete run down of the entire trip:
BOOKING: We worked with Monique and Nicole to book our trip. They always responded quickly, answered any questions and made the process very simple. They arranged our flight from Belize City to Dangriga along with our boat ride to the island and offered our itinerary about 3 weeks in advance. Perfect customer service.
ARRIVAL: Everything went smooth, the shuttle driver and boat captain were on-time. friendly and even gave us Belize facts and info along the way. Upon docking at Coco Plum, we were met with a Mosquito Bite then taken to lunch.
CABANA: We were in Cabana Kimi, the green one about 3 away from the bar. Perfect location! It was super clean, smelled new or at least freshly painted. There was a foot washing bowl to get the sand off, which was a must! Inside had a closet with a safe, hangers and raincoat. Our bathroom was large with shampoo and soap provided. There was also a hair dryer. Inside the room there was a dresser, mini fridge with water bottles, water jug, coffee maker, two chairs w/ a side table, a king size bed with two end tables. Our balcony was large and and two chairs and a hammock. We didn’t have a clothesline though. Our bed was surprisingly very comfy and we are picky with beds! But that comforter was ahh-mazing!! Weird thing to love right? It was so soft and light but still warm enough at night. I must find one! Our AC worked very well especially on those hot days! Housekeeping came every day to clean. They also came to make the bed in the evenings and even leave chocolate! There’s no tv which was great to cut off from the world and the wifi is spotty. It’s truly a relaxing getaway.
FOOD: The best food I’ve had in my life! It was different every meal, every day. Breakfast was 7-9am and varied from burritos, to egg sandwich, to fried jacks, to eggs your way. Always with fresh fruit and a fresh baked pastry. Lunch was 12-1pm and we had coconut shrimp soup, chicken and fish tostadas, etc. Bar bites were 4-6pm and we never missed those! Dinner was 7-9pm and the best meals! We has grilled lobster, boiled chicken, conch salad, pineapple chicken, bacon wrapped pork tenderloin. Many sides were variations of black beans and plantains which I love! Our romantic dinner on the dock was lovely. We received a bottle of wine and excellent, private service! Everything was seasoned perfectly and well balanced meals. I wanted to take the chef home with us!
STAFF: We can never say enough about the staff and how wonderful they were. Everyone learned our names right away and were always so polite and happy. Our meals were so perfect because of Bella and Shanna, our time at the bar was made the best because of Ervin and Rod (and even Shaggy!), snorkeling and sailing was super informative because of Captain Ming and Rojo, Eric was the best tour guide on our excursions and Alex made sure that anything we needed was handled and that we were having the best time! We can’t thank the staff enough because without them, our honeymoon wouldn’t have been the same.
EXCURSIONS: You must do the cave tubing/zipline and the Mayan ruins if you can. It was cool to drive to other parts of Belize and see more places along the way. We were very lucky that it was just us two for the ruins trip, so we had a private trip with Eric who took us to local shops and bars and we were able to spend almost 2 hours at the ruins! When you eat at Benny’s after the ruins, order the Pibil! The trips are long, but so worth it. We also did 2 of the 3 snorkel trips and we went to two different places. We even saw a nurse shark at Tobacco Caye and Rojo took our GoPro down and got all up on him. It was an awesome video!
PACKING: You don’t need to bring much! The biggest worry is making sure you have closed toe shoes and apparel for your excursions. Be sure you have water shoes! We bought some at the last second not knowing we needed them. But you need them for cave tubing, but they are also great just for going around and getting out of the kayak to explore. You do not need beach towels as they provide them daily. I packed one sundress for our private dinner, but other than that, it was several swim suits with a cover-up, a couple pairs of shorts, a couple tanks, lounge pants and a pair of sandals. I didn’t bring makeup or my hair dryer. Most meals and days I walked around barefoot which I loved! Bring a GoPro to capture everything. Bring lots of bug spray and sunscreen, and a flashlight to explore the water from the dock at night.
TIPS: Bring a t-shirt to leave behind at the bar with your name and other memorable words! Walk the 10 minutes to the end of the island and lounge on Crocodile Beach, it was our private oasis several mornings. Be sure to get the massages; they were the best right out on the water listening to the waves! If you run out of things to do here, there’s something wrong with you. They have a Hobie Cat, kayaks, paddle boards and snorkeling gear for you to use when you’d like. Grab a thermos of beer from the bar and go explore the island or watch the sunset on the dock. And lastly, don’t drink too many Panty Rippers 😉
I’m sure I’m forgetting things, but there wasn’t a single negative thing to say about Coco Plum. You must go! We can’t wait to go back and maybe even renew our vows there one day with our family and friend and rent the entire island!!!
Check out a few of our amazing pics!
