On the west side of Puerto Rico, you will find many small beach towns including Rincon. This town is known for surfing and you can sit at several beaches and just watch the surfers – Maria’s Beach and Domes Beach are popular surf spots. But there is so much more to this town than surfing.
My husband and I stayed 4 nights at an Airbnb in Rincon. It was located up the mountain, only 8 minutes to town. The location provided beautiful mountain and sunset views from our balcony; and we even had a hot tub which made watching the sunset even better!

Things to do in Rincon:
1. Watch the surfers at Maria’s Beach or Domes Beach – If you’re a surfing enthusiast, then Rincon is definitely for you! Maria’s and Domes Beaches hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship – this first held in Puerto Rico. It was even aired on ABC’s Wide World of Sports. Now when you visit those beaches you can watch surfers of all experiences levels. You can even take surf lessons while visiting. Or just enjoy the soft caramel sand and beautiful ocean views for a relaxing day at the beach. When you’re finished at the beach, head on over to Galeria Del Surf museum which is located right downtown in front of Lala Beach. It’s small, but interesting. There are many photos, history blurbs, and surfboards from as early as 1950 in the museum.
2. Catch a sunset, listen to the waves (and music), and enjoy a bite to eat at Caddy’s Calypso – Serving guests for over 45 years, Calypso’s is well known around Rincon. A local told me about this place and said Saturday would have a reggae band; unfortunately, we were leaving on Saturday so we went on a Wednesday night, which happened to be open mic night. It was pretty busy, but we were able to snag a seat up at the bar. The menu has a wide variety of options from steak and seafood to burgers and salads and more. And if you arrive around sunset, it’s a beautiful view of Maria’s Beach.
3. Grab a mimosa and relax in the pool at the Aqua Marina Beach Club pool bar – If you want to take a break from the beach and sand, head over to Aqua Marina Beach Club and take a nice, cool dip in the pool. You can book nightly stays in the resort, or just pay $10 for a day pass which gives you access to the pool and amenities. You’ll have to leave the kids at home because this is an adults only club. They have a full service bar and serve food. Such a relaxing way to spend an afternoon.

4. Rincon Art Walk – Every Thursday night the downtown square is hopping with local vendors selling handmade items, such as soaps, decor, art, jewelry, apparel, and so much more. There’s even live music with many people joining in the fun by dancing the night away. I picked up some lovely smelling locally made body soaps. It runs from 5-9pm, but downtown stays lively throughout the night.
